Currys washing machine out of warranty

Hi, new at the forums so please be kind.

My washing machine, bought from Currys for about £200, had a massive broke down after 2 years (bearings related I think).
I researched the internet, includind these forums, on what to do and decided to write Currys customer services a letter quoting the Sales of Goods Act and asking for a repair. I got a reply back from Currys with a good will offer of a £80 refund to drop the case.
Now my question is: should I take this £80 offer and get on with my life or should I get an independent service person to come to the house and produce a report so I can get the machine repaired.
I would rather get the machine repaired or replaced if possible as I don't have much money to buy a new one.
Any advice, please?
Thanks

    Take the £80. 2 years isn't unreasonable for a £200 washing machine I'm afraid!
Washing machines, IMHO, are one of the few appliances worth insuring, they are all quite unreliable compared with other electric products.

£80 is a decent chunk towards the next £200 machine.
If you want it to last 10 years - get a Miele :D
  • Absolutely agree, you won't get much more out of Currys in my experience, although sometimes they will increase their offer if you accept instore vouchers rather than a cash settlement. Had a nice german make washing machine from them and has so far proved to be great.

Thank you very much to everyone that replied:).

I've now received the refund from them and decided to sell my broken machine on ebay for spares/repair and made another £12 out of it.

Looking for a new machine now... If anyone know of any good deals going, please let me know.

    Thanks again for the help.
