Help needed with Next credit account

Hiya,

I'm sure everyone will tell me that I've been silly and not read t&cs properly, but here goes:

About a week ago I got the Next code for £10 off a £20 spend by voting for the 'mum of the year', as promoted on MSE.

Late on Weds night (about 11pm) I thought I'd treat myself to a couple of tops, so went to the Next site. There was a box at the start for putting some sort of code in; mine didn't work here so I thought there would be a bit on the payment screen, as with most online retailers.

I filled in the various details, I was looking for a 'collect from store for free' option but couldn't find that, so again thought maybe that'll come up at the end; in the meantime chose the '£3.99 delivery, pay by card' option rather than the 'create a credit account, pay £3.75 for directory' option.

Or at least I thought I did!

Next thing I know, although I've been billed for the £3.99 deliv option, it's set up an online credit account for me for £600!!!

Didn't get to use my code, didn't get any payment options, didn't get it delivered to the Next store which was 5min round the corner from where I live!

I emailed immediately and called Next 7.30am next morning to try to get them to stop the order. They were vague and useless and according to tracking today, have not managed to stop the delivery.

Yes, I know most people will tell me I've been very thick, but I've never seen a credit account opened with so little details and warning - surely they need to get me to sign a credit agreement before they just wang me £600-worth of credit?!

Clothes are out for delivery today - I won't be in. I'm hoping I can just refuse to sign for them and they'll be returned? Where do I stand on not getting billed for outward postage?

I just want to get their clothes back to them, get this 'credit account' refunded and closed, but I've never dealt with one of these catalogue-style retailers before so haven't a clue what my rights are or the best way to do things :(

Thanks for any advice

  • Argh!

Just had another email saying it has been 'delivered to my porch'!

Interesting, as I don't have a porch. Everything before said that they MUST be signed for at my address etc, etc.

I live in a pretty dodgy area, so there's a good chance the parcel will be nicked by the time I get home.

Anyone know where I stand on all this and what to do next?!

Exactly the same has happenned to me today. i shopped with Next online for the 1st time, chose items, pressed "checkout", was asked to register, and nothing was mentioned about creating a credit account whatsoever! i was asked too to chose an option to get free delivery and pay 3.75 for the catalogue, i thought it looked cheaper and chose that option(i thought both options are "pay now" options), but i didn't notice any warnings about credit account, and didn.t see any "pay buy card now" option!!! only when i reached a final page stating my order had been placed, and realizing that i wasnt asked card details, so i was shoked "how come, i didnt pay, but the orded had been placed"??? i checked my e-mail and there was no confirmation of my order, i looked at MyAccount page ant there was no order confirmation either, so i thought i made a mistake and ordered same items again(!!!! yeah, its like the movie DUmb, DUmber!). i only then i saw My Account page with £600 credit limit and realised that i opened a credit account! at first i didn't worry and thought it will be like Littlewoods account where you can spread cost and pay no interest, but then i read T&C's and saw that there is 29% apr!!!!!!! only later i received 2 e-mail confirmations, so it is thrue-i ordered same items twice due to confusing forms/checkout process... now i will have to deal with that too!! ...OMG they really tallented in tricking people. legalized scam!

"I'm hoping I can just refuse to sign for them and they'll be returned?"...
i actually called customer service, and they said i couldn't cancel my second order(as i ordered same things twice), but confirmed that one can refuse the delivery and you wont be charged...

Sadly, I can't return them with the courier as the parcels have now been left on my non-existent porch!

I's been raining and blowing a gale all day - I'm still at work so don't know where they've been left, but if they haven't been pinched from my doorstep in the last six hours, I guess I'll be returning some soggy jumpers to Next tomorrow!

Most places notice if you duplicate an order rather than just flinging it out twice - that's rubbish of them not to check.

I emailed immediately after ordering to try to get it cancelled (then called first thing when they opened in the morning), but they still just send it out regardless - argh! Can't wait to get this sent back and unwanted account closed.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last year, they set the account up without your permission, i ordered a duvet cover, and when i found out, i rang and blasted them, i paid for my item over the phone, and they cancelled the account, they still had to send a statement a while later, but that was automatically done from the computer, i rang them again, and have heard nothing since. This sort of thing should be stopped.
