    Hung up my suit!
Thanks for all the helpful (:)) tips.

I already have one implant (exactly the same tooth on the other side) but had that done when I still had private insurance ...so the cost pain was limited.

I've managed to find a highly recommended dentist not too far away that charges at the bottom end of the range. Unfortunately, he is so popular that I will have to wait until the end of March to see him!
Money won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!

Because the activities of these uncaring, callous and incompetent shower of UK politicians have had the effect of lowering the Pound and thus raising the value of anyone's investments who has any sensible global mix of investments.

Yes, I experienced that, and then £18k extracted from my pension as tax due to exceeding Lifetime Allowance for having too many of the freshly devalued pounds in there. Same assets, more pounds, they get my money!

Surprised it was not in your budget- teeth/eyes/ other body parts need maintenance/ replacements- is or the first time you heard about implants ?
Anyway from what I remember you could afford the whole set of those without affecting your plans :D
My view is you take the car to the garage oncw a year or so to be serviced or whenever the service light comes on.
My body / health is worth more to me than a car and id rather spend more on me and keeping me in tip top shape regardless of cost . We should take ourselves for a full MOT every year to minimise health scares.

I don't. No fixed service interval, no service light, and not much to service as it's electric. No need for petrol stations either, which is good given what they charge!

Without doubt health is very important.
I have been retired a long time and now look back and know that my highly stressful job was driving me into an early grave.
While I am much older than when I retired I am much more aware of my health now than I ever had time for when working.
Everyone should make sure they have a regular MOT and also get anything else you want checked out regularly like eyes, teeth, bloods and skin.
A little bit of hypochondria isnt so bad!
Being retired is wonderful and I want to be able to enjoy it for as long as possible.
    And so should you.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Agree. Though don't think the intense exercise a lot of people do is required. Until a year ago I used to spend hours every week doing intense cardio training, boot camps etc. Over last year or so really reduced to gentle jogging, weights for 30 minutes a week, bit of Tai Chi and a couple of walks a week. Enjoy it far more.
The secret for me to being at the lightest weight since my teens despite a full time desk job is intermittent fasting. After reading Dr Jason Fungs book The Obesity Code and listening to various podcasts I am a convert to this way of life. Definitely worth considering if anyone overweight and like me has tried everything over the years like WW, Slimming World etc, etc.
Plus saves me money and time as only eating for 4 hours in every 24.

  • I'm afraid that's just the initial cost :). Additionally, you will probably have to factor in additional charges for cleaning and for checking that the implant is ok. I have two implants and have to see the hygienest twice yearly and the consultant (who placed the implants) on an annual basis.

Many UK dentists won't touch this type of work done elsewhere. They often want to redo the whole job.
I have a friend in this position at the minute. He hasn't decided what to do as yet.
  • As I stated "since August" when it was 7776, since then there has been a steady fall to 6704 due to business uncertainty over Brexit and we are still in the EU!

But it went up to 7776 under Brexit uncertainty too.

Jason Fung is brilliant. I wish I had known about this in my twenties. He contributes a lot to the Diet Doctor website which I'd also recommend.
