Penalty until 31/12/10 - can i swap now?

Hi

My contract states that I will have a penalty of £50 if i change suppliers before 31/12/2010.

I have no control of the date the supply would switch, so was wondering should i wait until January, or can I actually request the switch prior to then?

Hi starkraving - Chances are that your present supplier will write telling you your contract is ending and advising of the one you will then be switched to Which is likely to be written up in terms of 'Great Deal', but is unlikely to the best they have on offer

To negotiate from a position of strength, visit the Switch sites in mid-December to note the best deals for your consumptions, then if in fact your present supplier does have a good deal, lean on them to swap seamlessly from your old deal to a new one - If they don't have a good deal start the Switch process then, as with Xmas looming it's highly unlikely the Switch would complete before Jan 1, though you will be stuck with your suppliers Standard tariff until it does complete
