Hi guys! Not been on here for a while but have hit a bit of a problem...
Recently got engaged:j and my new fiance and I are planning on moving in. I currently recieve a minimum loan from SAAS - applied for the maximum and due to my fathers high wage I get very little to see me through the month
Question: When my fiance and I move in can I use his income to assess my loan? Or do I need to wait till the beginning of the next academic year? And does anyone know if I will be able to claim travel expenses? As again due to my income assessed loan I am not entitled to travel expenses at present???
Any advice would be appreciated, we want to move onwards and upwards but due to a few tricky situations its difficult
I am 23 years old, currently having to work around 30 hours a week as I have to pay tuition fees (due to me leaving a course and going back) as well as being a full time student and would just like perhaps a little bit more peice of mind and to know that I may recieve more than £48 a month to live on!
Thanks in advance!!

You should be able to claim travel expenses. The travel expense grant is income-assessed, and so to get it you need to provide SAAS with all the finance details, but you have already done that so just need to apply when the forms come out in January.
As for the other part, I really have no idea. You'd probably be best getting in contact with SAAS, can be a nightmare at times, but should give you an answer.0 -
To claim as living away from parents/on your own you need to prove you have been supporting yourself for 3 years before they will stop using your parents income to calculate your loan/bursary.
Travel expenses will be fine, as it is not based on your loan amount, but on how much it costs to to travel to and from uni/college.0 -
You can only be reassessed during your course if you have a child or get married. Living with someone isn't a reason for reassessment.0

sorry you will have to wait till next year to be re assessed it happened to me last year and they dont care - i think i know someone who got married and they didnt let her be assessed on her husbands income though i may be a bit mixed up.
Travel expenses should be ok0 -

You can't be reassessed by living with someone at any time during the course!0 -

Actually, I think you can, but I'm not 100% sure. It might depend on whether or not you are classed as an independent student or not, which going by the first post, they are not. So I think they will continue to be assessed on parental income, at least for this year.
To be an independent you need to meet at least one of a list of conditions, one of which is: "You were married, entered a civil partnership or are living with a partner before the start of the academic year we are assessing you for." So going by that, next year they should be able to be assessed on their partner's income.
SAAS can be a bit confusing though, so always best to check with them, since it is up to them in the end.0
