Amazon - a bit irritating

More of a rant than anything. I bought an item last week from Amazon the day after the item went down in price. Now the item finally turned up today (5 days later), i am in the situation where if I send the item back to Amazon(its unopened), claim a full refund and then reorder the item then it will cost less than just keeping the item. I've therefore asked Amazon if they'll refund the difference as its annoying for an item to be reduced in value 12 hours after i've ordered it. They're refusing. I understand its there policy not to apply discounts to already completed orders but its ridiculous that I can get the most of the difference myself if i can be bothered returning it myself!

Anyway its not the end of the world! I know they get a slating on this forum but i'll stick to Play.com in future!

If they put the price up, would you send them the difference??

They used to refund the difference, but that Policy was withdrawn a couple of years ago.

No of course i wouldn't. However i think when the price is lowered before the item has even reached the customer (i think it went down about 3 hours after it was posted) then its a bit irritating, plus like I said I can return the item for £1.20 and get my money back and then reorder the item at the cheaper price which makes the whole thing ridiculous!

  • What would you do if a shop you had just walked into and bought something done the same? They do it with food in the supermarkets - are you to take it back and ask for the difference back?

Have you actually emailed them? I bought some speakers from them for £39.99. They were dispatched last Monday, by which time they had reduced them even further to £35.99. I emailed to ask if they would price match and they refunded the £4 that day.

No of course not, but if i bought some food from a supermarket and on the way out of the supermarket saw they had reduced the price of the food then I probably would complain!

Its the fact the item was significantly cheaper before it had reached me that annoys me. If it had been a few days later I wouldn't have minded

Yeah i emailed them straight away when the item was in transit and they said no.

That's irrelevant since there's no regulations that would yield the same results for the store with a few extra steps. For the OP however, there is the DSR which, as goater is aware will result in them getting their money back and being able to buy the item again. I take it as that is what goater is going to do and they are simply requesting that amazon play ball and make it easier since whatever happens, they are going to try and get it at the cheaper price anyway.

Amazon all is forgiven. After at first refusing to refund me the difference they have emailed me again, and now refunded me the cash.
