Which paint??Different types!

Hi all
Hope someone will be able to help!!!!!!
need to do the house-researching yet and want it to be as economical and cheap as possible!
Never had decorating done before so bit of a dummy!!What are these types for and what are there plus and neg's:
Silk
Matt
Soft Sheen
are there any other types?
We definitley need bedrooms/livingrooms etc doing.but may also need bath and kitchen too.So please advice.
Plus what is the general price for a 2.5 litre paint these days??

you can pick up some cheap paint but you will have to give it 30 coats to cover - i would suggest you fgo for glidden paint , which is made by the same company that makes dulux , you can get 5lts of magnolia / white for £10 -12 , or coloured /tinted paint for under £25 . it is a very good paint per cost option although obviously not as good as the dulux trade range, alternitively you may get a good deal from homebase / wickes / do it all ,
3 different finishes , mat is a flat finish , silk has a bit of shine to it and soft shhen is inbetween matt and silk
