My son has just announced he would like XBox live for christmas.
He has (obviously) an XBox, im not sure which one it is, but i know it wasnt the cheapest option.
Now, can i just go and buy the years membership, or do i need any other cables/equipment to go with it?
Thanks for any help, i have no idea about any of this!

Need to know which version he has.
What type of modem do you have and where is it?
If you have a wireless modem and cannot connect direct ( Ethernet cable ) you will need a wireless adapter unless the xbox has it built in.0 -
Hy there i am young myself and have xbox live, you buy a card from a shop such as game which will entitle you to a years subscription not sure how much it is.the xbox's do not pick up wireless networks as standad,so you have 2 options as far as getting connected to the net.either run a standard internet cable to the xbox OR you will have to purchase a wireless receiver for the xbox which will then pick up your wireless internet signal i think they are roughly 50ish pounds but cant really remember.hope this is of some help0

yea as michaelro depends which xbox he has..
the new slims have the wifi adapter built in.. the older versions need an adapter..
these are starting to come down in price now also due to the new slims0 -
if you need to connect to your router/ hub ect wirelessly you will need one these ( unless you have the brand new Xbox with wireless built in ..like this one )
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/xbox-360-wireless-network-adapter-/120642126660?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c16d4c344#ht_500wt_1048
used be lucky if you could get one for less the £45 , but they are coming down in price a bit now the new built in wireless Xbox is out .
or if router/ modem is near enough then just run a half decent ethernet cable from one to the other . take your pick from loads off ebay for a couple of quid ....eg.

you will also need a buy a Xbox live Gold membership . you can get them from places like Game or Blockbuster , but i found these to be the cheapest

they email you a voucher really quickly and you just type in the code when prompted on Xbox live .
your son might also want a headset , but most console bundles come with a basic one . i also assume your Xbox has a hard drive . you will need it for game updates and downloads if playing online .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

The other issue, if indeed he only has an Arcade version, is that he won't have much memory left on the memory unit.
This won't stop him getting on-line, but there will soon be a time where he'll start to want to download demos and extra game content, e.g. map packs, etc.
You'll therefore have to look for a new or second hand Xbox hard drive, or a shorter term solution is to use a USB stick which obviously has limited capacity.Dave. :wave:0
