Sofa.com

Has anyone bought a sofa from sofa.com? I've been looking at a modular sofa but it states in their T&Cs that if I don't like it, I can't return it and their showroom is in London - quite a distance from me!

I have a swatch of fabric but I'm still a little nervous about going ahead with such a large purchase without being able to try it out first!

(I think I've stressed more about this than the purchase of the house it'll be going in!!)

It seems to say in their t and c's that you can return it with no questions asked:

I think the distance selling regulations allow you to return items you don't like within 7 days of delivery, though you have to pay return costs.

There are good reviews on Review Centre but imo these review sites have been discredited now as companies force them to remove negative reviews (see the Jual appliances thread on the Vent board). Hopefully, some MSE'ers have used them before. They look nice sofas on the site, though still quite pricey.

It may be worth asking them if you can try it when it arrives, then return it for a fixed cost on the same van if you don't like it.

Thanks, I've been going backwards and forwards over them and thought I read that modular sofas could not be returned as they're non standard.

I've read all the reviews out there but agree with your statement that means only favourable reviews are allowed to stay and everything is only allowed if acceptable to the company which makes a mockery of the review sites.

I think I'll talk to them and see if they'll agree and as you say, long distance selling rules apply too. Yes, very pricey but I've checked a lot of the furniture websites, DFS and the like and they all charge quite a bit for corner sofas and as we'll hopefully be sitting on it for a long time to come, I don't mind paying a little extra to get decent quality.
