  • I got a really good, huge, pot from Lidls a few months back. It's non stick with a glass lid and a german or swiss make. I would keep an eye out in Aldi and Lidls over the next few weeks.
  • I bought a casserole dish - ceramic, red, with a lid - for about £8 from Tesco.

It does go on the hob (although it recommends a low light) and in the oven. You have to pre-treat it beore the first use - I think it was soak in very hot water for a while.

Guess it would break if I dropped it though.

i use a large stainless steel stockpot in the oven as long as it dosent have any plastic on the lid or handle it is fine, mine has 2 small handles as 1 long one would be a nuisance in the oven, it is very versatile and a nice heavy based large pan can be brought for about £20

I've never bother about my casserole dishes being flame-proof. I saute off in a large skillet and then tranfer to a pyrex dish and continue the cooking process. I did have a full set of le crusset but sold them cos I do like to start things off or speed things up with a bit of nuking in the micro and cast iron is no good for that and also with having back probs some days I couldn't lift them off the counter and that was before I put anything in them LOL.

With regards to pyrex ware I've found Pyrex-U-Like from pound shops etc just as good and long-lasting.

I got a big stainless steel stockpot to use for casseroles too - no plastic on it. Mine came from Asda.
  • Ikea have started doing them - I bought one the other day for just under £30 and there is a slightly larger one for just over £30 - very heavy and work wonderfully.

I have something called Corningware, which is hob and oven proof. They used to sell it on amazon, but now amazon are selling something called Corningware Creations, which is not hob proof.

I did a quick search and found one in Amazon Marketplace (1.5Litre): http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/B000A3FWIW/new?tag2=shoppingukmar-21
    and a 5 litre http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/B000A3FWIM/new?tag2=shoppingukmar-21

These are great for casseroles. I brown the mneat on the hob, add the stock and vegetables, and then put it straight in the oven. It's also passable enough to serve from.
