HELP for a friend - VERY SIMPLE VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE

hi

my friend has got himself a 2nd hand digital camera.
It is Canon Powershot S50.

he is using picasa for his digital photos. having problems with it trying to down videos file as well. Any idea how to switch that off?

I need to find him some free/open source video editing/manager software that is simple to use and not to feature rich.
Just need to be able to detect that new video/avi files appear on the camera when plugged and then download them in organised fashion in same way as picasa does it?
Need to feature to burtn simple vcd disk off from the avi files on his computer? On Screen Menu would be nice too these disks.
Need to be able to save frames from the avi files as jpg files so he store them in his picture collection.

Here's a link to Canon software for the S50, your friend may find something there.

Thanx I will have a look and get back with experience with my friend who stretch my patients on computer help lol. It seems like it would be a lot easier for me to do the occasionally thing he wants to do , then try to teach him how to do it. Its must be cos he is old and having a hard time understand this digital world. Like friday on the phone he was saying the videos have disappeard from his camera and the computer had eatten them up and deleted itself. What I found out at 2pm sunday , was that the videos where still there. I am not what had really happened too the first set could really understand the set of steps he went though to get them off his camera was all sorts of weird and wonderful steps such as renaming the video files on camera and moved them to some other directory/folder on CF card within cam hoping the computer would find them. He tried installing some software from a cd he found in his collection that had some connection with video , I think maybe old version of windows media player that screwed a lot of stuff up and took an hour to sort out. I keep telling him if gets in a mess just leave and not start loading and installing software or even worse start playing around with settings on computer or the camera. anyway it was a fun afternoon at his house and got 6 cups of tea and lots of biscuits etc.

Who idea was it too sell computers to OAP :D

I am not sure he will be able to understand where to find the orginal avi files on his system. I have done loads of tutorials and talked at length about how to use and manage the file system etc. He still has problems find files on his hard disk. He loves picasa cos it gives him a very simple view of just his pictures like on the side panel etc.

anyway i waffle enough about him and his adventures on computers. At least he got a reasonable spec machine he got from the auction and had me put windows 2000(brought off ebay) n other stuff(from ebay/old time machine)on it for him (4 free).
