I have a HP G6000 which is overheating.
HP kindly give out the service manuals.

I've found the procedure to get to the heatsink/fan.
Before removing the fan/heat sink assembly, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 37).
5. Remove the following components:
a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 40)
b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 48)
c. Switch cover (see Switch cover on page 50)
d. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 52)
e. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 56)
f. Top cover (see Top cover on page 63)
g. System board (see System board on page 65)
..and that just to get to it...
Not the biggest promotion for buying a HP laptop.
I've seen Dell laptops where the heatsink and fan can be replaced in 10 minutes.

You could try a few blasts into the vents from the compressed air cans that photography shops do.0

Are you putting your laptop on a cushion or something that might stop the air getting underneath?
You can buy a laptop cooler, it is a base that you rest the laptop on and it blows air underneath to keep it cool.0 -
Try using a vacuum cleaner cleaning tube around the vents of the laptop, a few people I know swear this has stopped their lap top overheating - never tried it myself but planning to as my G6000 is starting to get quite hot.0

had exactly the same problem with my HP. getting that hot it shut itself down after a couple of minutes. stripped it down as per instructions, took about 45 minutes of careful screw removal putting all the removed parts on a sheet of paper marking where they came from etc.
fault was with the heat sink lifting off the chip. cost me £4.00 for some heat sink glue/paste. stuck the heat sink arm back on and put it back together.
been working fine now for 6 months.0
