Nah, forget the detector, get some glue:rotfl::rotfl:
lol, I know this was probably meant in jest but believe it not this is what we went for!! And we discovered the fabulous product that is unibond no nails!!! Much better, much safer and truly the strongest hold ever.

I did try the stud wire detector but it was getting very upset, which made us think it was probably not worth drilling at the moment.
Thank you Vaio!!0 -
Not in jest at all, glues have come a long way recently and if they use them to hold cars and planes together then a couple of coats should be no problem.
I guess the main problem is you need good sound plaster to stick to
Glad it all had a happy ending0 -
Indeed, but that wall will need a re-paint anyway in the future so we will just have to tear it off the wall! lol. Anyway we needed a place for coats as they were piling up on the banister so we thought we would get something slightly more presentable0

Yes, but don't forget it's only as strong as the wallpaper paste/paint that it is glued to!!!!0 -
The glue itself is pretty strong but as vaio points out it's only as strong as the bond of plaster to wall.Purple-flower wrote: »Indeed, but that wall will need a re-paint anyway in the future
So all that will be holding them up will be a thin layer of paint then? Mmmm!
