Conservatory versus Extension

Obviously a brick built extension is more durable but also a lot more costly.

Daughter is undecided which way to go. What would be considered the life of a conservatory which would be used as dinning room on the back of the house.

The proposed extention doesn't come cheap, the price quoted is £25,000.

Any thoughts anyone?

  • I would go for the extension, it will be used all year around, cheaper to keep warm and she wouldn't have what i call a fly cemetery!
More money in the sort but knowing what i know now i would have paid double the cost of my conservatory for a solid warm usable room, each to there own though.
  • Presumably the extension would be properly heated? If so it can be used all year round like any other room in the house. Conservatories can get very hot in summer or cold in winter, making use as a dining room dependant on the weather that day. Depends on orientation and design though - south facing will really pick up the sun and get hot. We have fitted blinds and there is a heater/air con unit that we use to keep the conservatory at reasonable temperature when we need it as we use it for dining as much as we can - usually eat in kitchen in winter though as not worth heating the conservatory just to eat a meal! We open windows in summer and that keeps it from getting too hot. Conservatory would probably be cheaper, but just how much would you actually use it?
