Hanging canvas on wall - 3M Command strips?

Hi there,

We recently bought 3 canvases (20" x 32" each) and we not sure what would be the best way to hang them on the wall. As daft as it sounds, neither of us have hung pictures on a wall before, so we have no idea about drilling holes in the wall the right way (or wrong way) and besides we want to hang up quite a few pics/canvasses/wall art) without drilling into the wall if we can avoid it.

Has anyone used the 3M Command strips to hang up wall art and has it stayed up with no problems, does it work at all? There seems to be some many different ones to use, such as the hooks, stickers, etc, could anyone also suggest which ones of the lot is best to use on the canvases.

Thanks

I just drill 2 screws horizontal to each other straight using a spirit level and hang the canvas over them, works fine and never falls off :)

I've used them in the past, not for art but for other bits and bobs. I've found no rhyme or reason in when they work or when they don't. If you're lucky they work well, but I haven't found them to be reliable. I've got solid brick walls and almost all the pictures are put up with standard picture hooks - just swapping the brass pins they are supplied with for a steel one. Never had a problem with a picture hook and they are dead easy to put up.
  • Ive tried using the Unibond no more nails stickers on one of the canvases and it was absolutely useless. So I will try 3M first the velcro stickers and if that dont work the bathroom hooks and wire at the back of the canvas. I hope it does because we want to avoid drilling holes as we will be putting up quite alot of framed pics and wall art

I just hammer a nail in to the wall unless its a really heavy picture then I just hammer a screw in to the wall ;o)))
  • Erm... i dont know if i said before, we dont want to drill nails in the wall!

we just need something strong or durable enough to hold photo frames (small and large) and wall art on the wall without falling off every 5 seconds.

We have used these ones in all three sizes and they have worked brilliantly, just follow the guidelines for weight etc.

  • Thanks alijolly, thats what we looking for. They had a small selection in B&Q but it was mostly hooks and stuff. Will order those online, not sure where else they would sell them.

You can't screw nails in to a wall as you hammer them in :p
