Thinking of getting my daughter a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for xmas. The one im looking at does not have Windows 7 installed. I have this at home (with 2 users left on disc). How would I get it installed on the Dell with not having a drive to put the disk in?

You could likely package up Windows 7 for install from a 1Gb USB stick plugged into the Mini 10. Have a Google.
Or
Presumably you have a DVD drive in another PC. You could get a USB caddy off Ebay, install the drive into that and boot Windows 7 install DVD from the Mini 10.0 -

Have a laptop with a drive at side. What does the USB caddy do? There seem so many on Ebay.
SorryRegards

You should look at the size of your Windows 7 DVD. I presume that different versions vary in size, but mine is about 2.5GB so a 4GB USB memory stick will probably be required.0

So if I put the dvd in to my lap top, it will ask me where I want to save it to? Id then save to memory stick? Is that how its done?Regards

You also need to check the specs. I did a quick search and Generation 2 Mini 10 machines seem to come with Windows 7. If this is a Generation 1 machine it maybe won't meet the minimum specs to run it.0

if you have a laptop drive you will probably be better off buying a full external disk drive something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172850
the caddy is something which you are able to take the drive out of your other system put it in the caddy which will change the connectivity of yoru drive to USB therefore allowing you to connect to the USB port of the other system
edit otherwise the USB memory stick suggested above would also be a good ideaDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

This was an issue when I wanted to undertake a factory re-install on my wife's Asus 701 eee PC netbook.
I just used an external DVD/CD drive connected to a USB port.
However using an existing DVD drive (temporarily) installed in a suitable caddy would save on the cost of purchasing a purpose built external drive.
Alternatively, as already suggested, copy onto a USB pen drive and install from there. This might well be the easiest option.

an external dvd drive would solve the problem and any future problems if you were to buy any other software unless it was in digital downloadwhat is the plural of moose?
