Pitch booking

Hi guys, wonder if you could help me out. I booked a pitch on behalf of my football team at a new venue and paid over the phone with my debit card.
Yesterday I became aware we were struggling for numbers and called up to enquire about their cancellation policy. I was told that once a booking had been made it was non-refundable unless someone else wanted the time slot. I wasn't told this at the time, and if I had been I wouldn't have booked. Where do I stand?

On the pitch with your pals. Their policy is entirely fair and legal.0

Not with Goals by any chance?
Either way, you'd need to get a copy of their T&C's. Some allow a 24 hour period to cancel, some 48...but most are making the most of your reason and saying a week.0 -
No, it's a University. I've booked with all the local Uni's before except this one, the team spends over £6k per year on pitches and I manage all their bookings, but this is the first time I've come across anyone using this policy.
I can see why they would operate it, but it just feels harsh that they would do so without informing you at the time of booking.0 -
Ask for their T&C's to justify the charge. If it was 24 hours, it is unfortunate but looks like you'd have to let it slip and bob everyone's subs up by 50p for the next 10 weeks.
I know how hard it can be! At my old work, the trouble we had to get 10 in winter was mental. Used to ring up on Fridays and just cancel if we had 8 or less. And you wonder why no one wanted to organise it.0 -
I guess that's the danger of signing up for something without having seen the T&Cs. They're not under obligation to run through them all on the phone first, so you can find yourself a bit stuck come something like this."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Thanks for your help guys0

Have you got enough numbers to go along anyway, seeing as it's paid for? Seems pointless to have to pay for it and not use it...0

I argued some more for the hell of it and they've agreed to give me the money back this time only, which is fine because I won't be booking with them again.0

Good for them for going above and beyond what they needed to.
Good for you for arguing your case.0
