Total newbie with no existing providers

Hi energy experts

I've recently purchased a flat and am trying to find the cheapest provider of gas and electricity. It's only two of us in a relatively small flat, so usage is going to be low

I have no previous supplier, so switching is not applicable to me - and the comparison sites don't seem to cater for my category...

Does anyone have any pointers as to the cheapest suppliers or next steps?

Many thanks in advance

Your current provider will be whoever the previous occupant had, or if it's a new build, whoever the builders signed up with so you will be their customer until you change and you need to let them know that you are the new owner/occupier. Someone will come along soon who will be able to tell you what your average use is likely to be but I've found the comparison sites will guess for you if you don't know.

First thing to do is make sure you take a note of the readings on your meters and your date of entry, even if it's a new build. Someone is supplying the gas & electricity and they will be wanting whatever cash is owed to them, so by finding out who the supplier is and providing them with your start reads is important to make sure they can't try and make you pay more than you should be.

Great advice mac.d. Take a look at this link, http://www.energylinx.co.uk/mpas_online.htm

scroll down and find the helpline for the area you are in. They will be able to tell you which utility company holds the supply. You can then call the company to advise you have taken over the supply and this is the time to give your start reads. Likelihood is they will try to get you to enter into a contract with them there and then - my advice is don't! Get a quote from them and then shop around! Hope you don't have too much hassle! I worked for npower til a couple of months ago, so any questions, please ask

You will have as soon as you use any of the supplies.

How to identify your gas supplier

How to identify your electricity supplier
