I think you need to investigate the fares again. If you stick to main line stations, your fare shouldn't alter. So getting to St Pancras should be the same as to Farringdon or London Bridge.
Also, if you do need to extend the journey, you only need to add on a zone 1 extension, not zones 1-5. Remember you can also use your Oystercard as a pay as you go top up to the season ticket.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. pickled_cabbage wrote: »Thanks for all of your useful advice and feedback. I'm definitely going to try some of these suggestions next week so see if any work out quicker and I'll post back with the results of my stopwatch test!
Just to add a bit of extra info on my suggested route which will make it quicker for you on the day.
When going for the bus at Waterloo turn left off the end of The Cut and the bus stop is about 75m ahead on Blackfriars Rd.
The 45 bus turns off from Farringdon at the bottom of Smithfield market so get off there at the stop outside Vivat Bachuus / Alfords deli. The 63 goes straight up the road next to the station. You'll need the stop next to the 'fully nude table dancing burlesque emporium with cheap drinks' :rotfl:
Please let us know how you get on.
As for cost, Farringdon is still in zone 1 and a bus should be £1.20 each way.0 -
If you want an alternative bus route from London Bridge, then the no.17 goes straight from London Bridge Station to Farringdon Road, as far as Charterhouse St.0

Sorry if this has already been suggested, could you not ask to go back to your original hours of 9.30am - 6pm. Then at least some of the time you will either be on time or early.0

im sorry OP but i cant quite get past the fact that none of the staff were informed and asked if they wanted to stay or go? if u tay they cover the extra expense for a certain level of time.
What happened here?!
with regards to the rest of the replies, different journey lengths effect people in different ways. I had an AWFUL 1 hr commute to an old job that totally stressed me out, yet i can travel for longer than that on other work commutes. it all depends on changes, times, train networks, tube lines, e.t.c
i feel for OP espesh on how far out they live. ANY COMMUTE from zone 5 or further to the NE/NW area is not stress free and just as simple as 'hopping on a train'.0 -

two stops on the tube can go from 1 zone to another, therefore the price increase can b significant overtime.
like having a 2-6 card and the new office being in zone 1. Major difference even tho its 'one or 2 stops'.0 -
Anybody who cycles through London in the middle of the rush hour has to be ever so slightly potty!
It actually very easy, I cycle from St P to Marble Arch and the cycle paths are very well done most are even separate from the main road.
Might be worth OP hiring a barclays bike and giving it ago?0 -

I appreciate that but you can't expect a company to offer concessions, much less paying overtime as you suggest.0 -
