Job Seekers Allowance JSA And Back To Work

I have been on JSA for 1.5 yrs, I am 44 YO. I now have found a job cleaning for 18 Hrs per week. 3-6am but its a start! I will be paid monthly. The first pay packet will be Dec 6th. I start 8th Nov (2010)

My nephew who has kids, said you can claim JSA up to 4 weeks due to the lull in being paid (he has claimed this twice before he reckins, , he called it follow up or run-on).

He also said that I can claim Job Grant, which for him was £240, he said mine would be £100.

Is he correct ? I dont know how else ill pay petrol to get to work or anything else, for a month?

HELP PEEPS ! :rotfl:

I'm in a similar position, as far as I know it's just the £100 job grant, mortgage interest run on (if applicable) for 4 weeks and council tax run on for 4 weeks. I thought JSA ended the day you sign off?

I'm having to use the credit card as I need all new smart clothes, stuff for lunches, travel etc, it's not easy!

Your nephew has been committing benefit fraud. Is he correct simple answer no.

There are a few conditions regarding the job grant.

    Job Grant

A Job Grant is a tax-free lump sum. You may be eligible for a Job Grant if you have been claiming one of the following benefits:
    • Employment and Support Allowance
    • Incapacity Benefit
    • Income Support
    • Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Severe Disablement Allowance
You will need to have been claiming benefit continuously for more than six months and starting work of more than 16 hours per week.
You'll automatically get Job Grant if you're eligible. You just need to make sure you tell your Jobcentre Plus Office that you're starting work. You'll be paid in the same way as you were paid your benefit.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • He said that it wasnt JSA, there housing and coucil tax are paid due to them being unimployed with 2 young ones, he said a couple get £240 job grant.. which i see, is correct. I just called the jobby to sign off and yes, I do get the £100.

Insidentaly, you do get up to £500 towards things you need for that job, I know they cover tools but not sure about clothes etc..lol !

It does suck but then again, im only part time...

    Thanks, guys.

The work clothes rules have changed recently I was advised, now max of £75 (not sure if that rule is at all JC's?)and only IF it is approved by a more senior advisor. Plus the first choice shop they want you to go to now is Matalan, which isn't great if you need fairly smart clothes! There were other shops on the list but none that did very nice things, the best was Next but that was top of the list and you'd have to have a good reason why the other shops weren't suitable, to get that approved so I was told.

Did you find out how long they take to pay the £100 job grant after signing off??
