Hello All,
Sorry if this is a totally dumb question but the amount of info out there is making it harder for me decide if this is the right choice for us.
Basically we have Sky+ (out of contract so free to leave) and only pay for the "basic" sky Tv package, some of which wouldnt really be missed, but we love the Sky+ functions for the ease of use.
I have looked on the Sky site and the card can still be bought for £25, but doesn't give any info if the Sky+ box will still work in the same way?
If so I would be onto a winner as the card would pay for itself in 1 week.
I am also going to posted this in another place please if this is Ok Mods?.
Thanks for any advise you can offer.
Regards,
Gillian

You can get sky+ recording facilities for i think £5 or £10 a month now without any tv packages.
No point buying a new card when u already have one.0 -
You pay £10 / month to sky to retain Sky+ features or buy a PVR for FreetoAir or FreeView. I use a Topfield which has twin tuner and gives similar functionality, i.e. record two channels whilst you watch another."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Or you could do what I did!
I unplugged my SKY+ box and stuck it under the stairs, Cancelled my SKY subscription.
Bought a Freesat box and forgot about my SKY+ box for 4 months....
Then I moved the SKY+ box to the bedroom for basic "FreeSat From Sky" without Ch5 (nothing on that... lol)
I was surprised to find that recording still worked! so I've now got a free "Freesat Recorder" ^_^Laters

If I want to do this, do I still buy the Freesat card through Sky for £25 or if I was to buy a Freesat Recorder device would this come with the card/software I need? If this is the case, I would simply completely cancel Sky, but I can still plug the new freesat box into the dish, yes?0 -
Freesat PVR is a straight box swap, as long as you've got a twin feed from the LNB, which you must have if you already have Sky+.
No card is needed with Freesat, as no pairing or sub is required, it's FREE. It comes with everything you need, cables and software.
Suggest you go for the Humax Foxsat, best Freesat PVR on the market IMHO, and of course this will also give you the HD channels if you have an HD Ready TV.
If you go with Sky, you'll have to pay £10 a month forever to use the Sky+ functions. No free lunch, and no free laptop
