Anyone here got it?
I'm being tested for it and wondered what the consequences of it were.

My ex husband has it.
For him, due to the high dosage of daily steroids (two different types), he has suppressed immunity which caused problems when the boys were young...any tummy bug and it became a medical emergency (he also has diabetes so that may have caused a further complication).
Also long term steroid use has caused osteroporosis in him but the medication may have changed now to lessen that chance.
The worse complication is an Addisonian crisis, this is a medical emergency and has to be dealt with immediately by a large IV steroid push...my ex husband's addisonian crisis' were caused by the above mentioned tummy bugs
Apart from that, it presented no real difficulties day to day apart from being careful of those who had nasty bugs. He still managed to work full time, go to the gym everyday and basically carry out a pretty normal life.
Please note though, this was our experience of Addisons, everyone is different and may react completely differently, plus of course he also had the added complication of unstable diabetes...both illnesses put the other one out all the time.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
