Problems with hotel bookings - Travelrepublic and otel.com

We have recently returned from a holiday in Syria which was generally very good. The only problem we had was with the above websites as we booked seven hotels in total, four direct and three with the above websites. All direct bookings were fine, bookings with the websites were all wrong, for two hotels we were transferred to significantly worse hotels with no advance notice and the last booking we had to transfer for our third night - Travelrepublic didn't even provide an alternative and we had to find a hotel ourselves, and pay again.
The service was terrible and having contacted them on return no progress has been made. I've looked at reporting them to ABTA, but they require all correspondence before they will even look at an issue, so am trying to recover money from my credit card.
These websites are probably fine for Spain or US but don't have the capacity to deal with more unusual or complicated arrangement, avoid in these cases.

Have succesfully got full refund from credit cards using chargeback - one card provider has also responded and offered £35 compensation (half of one night) so there is a one hand not knwoing what the otehr is doing sound to their organisation.0
