EDF- why will they not listen ?
Hi, i have been with EDF from June last year... paying £17.00 during the first 2 months then £90 for a few months then reduced to £80 and july and august paying £60 a month, only because i request it.
I live in an old cottage, very small 2 bedroom house, average usage, tv pc, washing machine twice a week.
Well i decided to switch to British gas as we decided it was ridiculous how much money we were being charged by EDF. We are now BG costumers BUT EDF just issued me with the last bill and it is a dropping £362 ? how is that possible ?
I rang CS to ask them to explain the bill as it is says Estimated from april 09 july 09 and actual reading from july- sep.
I said to the lady that it must be a mistake, she said no, i know i am stupid because i did not submit meter reading, in my head it was better being " in credit " than underpaying.. but i am still in debt- or so they say.
I told her i want to submit the meter reading from the moment i moved into this house in june09 as my landlord wrote it down, when i said it.. she said they have different reading and if i wanted her to changed it i would have to pay much more...i wanted them to issue me with the bill from june09 til sep.10 as these are the only reading i have. Basically from the moment i started with them to the moment i finished to see how energy i used and if i overpaid them . She said she wouldnt do that, and will no change any number, i told her i don't want estimates, i want actual reading, but she was so rude to me, i just decided to leave it.
I don't know what to do, who can help me, CAB ?

The only person that can give an actual reading is you or the meter reader! Do you actually owe the money for the bill?0

yes i have but only 2... june 2009 and sep. 2010.. June being the first one when i switched to EDF and the Sep 2010( from july till sep it is a different one as we have a new meter) when i switched to british gas... but she told me she would not change them as they have been entered manually.i don't know what she meant.
April 2010-july 2010
the one from april2010 is Estimated- july 2010 is the right reading as i have it writing down.
i have been paying
10th april £80
9 may £80
10jun £80
30jul £60
29 aug £60
i still can not believe i owe them moneyMejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0 -
BG are the same, Sent me an estimated bill when i left to switch to EDF. Even though i had phoned them with the meter readings.
Sent me a bill for several hundred pounds. Phoned them again & eventually got the final bill for £9.
How do you heat & cook in your home? They will use a lot more than a washing maching or PC.
You dont mention previous bills, Were they based on readings or estimated? Were they right?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I imagine the computer records have not been changed to take account of the meter being changed. If this is the case, any bills/statements issued since the meter change will therefore be garbage and the amount outstanding will in all likelihood be considerably wrong.
Check your statements and see what meter number is given on them. Does that match up with the serial number on the actual meter in the cottage?0 -
Hi morocha - From your post it seems that when you moved in, in June 09, the L/lord gave you the meter reading and as the new Account Holder, you should have given this to Eon along with your move-in date, but it appears that this was not done.
Without this contact, Eon have no option other than to bill you from their last reading which was in April 09 and I'm afraid they cannot accept a new ' Moving-in reading' 15 months later and re-calculate the bills - If however they were given a reading when you moved in, then write a letter of Complaint asking for bills based on that reading.
With your Switch to BG you would have been asked for a meter reading from which they would start your account - This reading should be the same as the End Reading on Eons final bill - if it's not Complain to Eon
You haven't mentioned how your cottage is heated, but if it is electric with an ECO 7 meter your annual bills will be in the region of £1,200 - £120 a month
The basic lesson it to put yourself in charge of the power bills by reading your own meter once a month and NEVER, NEVER accepting Estimated bills - As soon as one arrives phone in your meter reading so that a new 'True' bill can be issued0 -
thanks so much everyone, you are all lovely, helpful people.
a representative has got in touch with me and hopefully we will be able to sort out this soon.
i will keep you all updated.
ps.. i have learnt that i should read my meter and write the reading once a month to be in control.Mejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0
