Radiator plumbing advice

Been looking at designer rad and I have a few question please -

Some rads look as if they connect to pipes coming from behind the wall and some connect up to pipes from the floor am I correct in thinking that the first lot our for joining up to a rad from the rad on the opposite side of the wall?

I am looking to install the rad on an outside wall to will I need a rad that will take a connection from the floor?

If i buy a rad for a new extension then can I lay down the celotex then lay the copper pipe across the floor and then put down the screed or will I have to run a pipe around the room against the wall?

Thanks

    1. A designer rad will give you naff all heat but will look pretty.

    2. You can adjust your pipework to pipe up to any rad. Mostly ypou choose your valves to matcj up with the pipework.

    3. I'd stick 'em in the floor but do not concrete over copper pipes without protection. They'll rot in due course otherwise and expansion contraction will crack your concrete / screed over time to boot.

    Cheers

    1. not entirely true - we have a designer Acova towel rail which gives out about 1.8kw IIRC which is more than enough for a decent sized bathroom. wasn't cheap though :)
  • I would also disagree about designer rads. Like latecomer, we have 4 Acova rads, 2 'Circa' rads (Wickes and B & Q) and they really kick out the heat. All our pipes are in the wall, I thnk it looks neater and doesn't impede into your flooring.

Whilst I accept what you say a towel warmer is not the same thing as a radiator. Designer radiators by their very design do not have fins. Its the fins that provide the convection mechanism and the vast majority of heat provided by a rad is by convection not radiation despite the surface being hot to the touch. I was under the impression that the OP was talking specifically about a radiator for a living space and thats the context in which I made my post. If I'm wrong thats OK.

    Cheers

BTW None of them are cheap :D.

Well I could easily have read it wrong too. None of us are infallible.

I don't use copper in floors anymore.

I would run 10mm Hep2o to the rad, and have this put inside plastic conduit. There will be no joints in the floor then.
