Hi, I'm hoping to pass my test in December, and so far have had ridiculous quotes for insurance, which are coming in around £4,000 yearly for a 1.2 Fiat Punto. 5 Door, Petrol, 52 Plate.

I Don't understand if it's something that I'm doing wrong, or if they've got something against me because my friends at school are paying around £2,000 for the same type of cars.

Do you have any advice on what to do to try and reduce the amount, it's not like i've been driving for a short time either I've been driving exactly a year in like 3 days.

Please help!

Thanks

EDIT : forgot to mention that I'm at sixth form, year 13 and am just coming up to 18 years old.

Have you looked anywhere else on this forum or the internet for similar advice?
  • Yes i've been on lots of websites, using the comparison websites etc.. Put my step-mum as a named driver and everything, the only thing i can do to get it below £2000 is say i'm female.. which, I am not.

The first rule is never believe what anyone else says they pay for insurance.

Try a broker as they will have access to companies not on the internet sites. Also try Co-op and NFU.

Second rule is don't believe anyone who says all your mates are liars.
Insurance has nearly doubled for teenagers this year, but I'm told Bell has been reasonable recently.
  • I've seen a few posts like this recently and am completely astounded!

I only passed my test in June this year, bought a car and arranged the insurance, at the time I was 22 (recently turned 23).

I bought a 56 plate Ford Ka and the insurance was just over £1000.00, though this increased to approx £1400.00 over the year as I chose to pay by Direct Debit.

Maybe Ford Ka's are considered a lot safer than the likes of Fiat Punto's or something, or maybe insurance premiums have risen ridiculously over the past 4 months?

    By the way - I used Elephant.co.uk
