Economy 7 billing query
My girlfriend has been with EON for the last 4 years
She has a 2 rate meter ( low and normal which I assume is same as night and day)
EON have been billing her by adding the 2 meter readings and then dividing them into the normal primary and secondary units
We have switched to Scottish Power and they charge the low reading at the low night rate (about 4p) and then the normal reading by dividing them into the normal primary and secondary units
If you have a meter capable of measuring night time consumption are you automatically entitled to receive a lower rate for that consumption or is it your choice to have it calculated as EON have
Just wondering if EON have been billing her incorrectly for 4 years...

Hi kulevet,
It sounds to me like your girlfriend has an economy 7 meter, most E.ON customers can be billed on economy 7 prices or one rate unrestricted prices (where the rates are added together), with this meter.
It depends on what the customer asked for, they may have an economy 7 meter, but not use much of the energy at night, this means they are normally better off being billed on a one rate tariff.
From some of the information on here, I understand that some suppliers may not add the rates together, but request the meter to be changed instead.
In general the customers that do benefit from economy 7 are those with electric storage heating, as a large percentage of their energy is used over night on the cheap rate (this is not in all cases).
E.ON wouldn't normally bill an economy 7 meter on one rate prices unless this was requested by the customer.
Look at previous bills and usage to see if she is better off on economy 7 or not.
Hope this helps a little.
