I'm not sure if this has been posted before but ONS are recruiting for census collectors and other similar jobs for March next year. Money is quite good for an extra job but it might not be everyones cup of tea (if you get hassle from people)
Applications being taken now at www.censusjobs.co.uk

I applied for their co-ordinator role about a month ago, but it's really a load of hassle for very little pay.The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0

Have applied too last month but still haven't heard anything....Has anybody? Not great pay but the work from home would suit me at the moment....A friend is a present which you give yourself (R.Stevenson)

Although it is a .co.uk web address it only applies to England and Wales.
Those interested in the Scottish jobs can find them here.

Yep, they were offering me a job as co-ordinator for my area. Pay was useless for what it involves. About £8phr if I remember rightly. Much better paid/ less stressful jobs out there. I wouldn't even consider the delivery option. The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
I have got my application in! My mam did this last time and made a decent wage packet0

I've decided not to do it this time after thinking about it for some time. I did the last census in 2001.
You have to be very organised if you want to keep your workload to a reasonable rate. If you aren't, you could spend quite a lot of time getting things sorted for distribution and then collection if needed.
It does take a long time to get all the forms delivered. It may not be such a problem if the areas are smaller this time. Last time I had a very big area to cover, and mostly in 'working' areas and needed to do all my deliveries in the evening.
You can get some abuse from people and you need to be able to handle a bit of hassle. You have to be able to speak to people face to face, so if you think you'll find this difficult on your own - don't do it. If the weather is bad, its awful!
On the positive side, the money wasn't bad and I could fit it in around my family at the time (they were 3 & 6) although because of the evening work I didn't get to put them to bed very often (OH had a blast!) The work isn't permanent so no long term committment.
It will also look good on a CV. My manager wrote a really nice letter that I could use for a future reference.
It's a great way of getting paid exercise, I lost a few lbs!!
If you are applying for it, good luck
