I got an in-line extractor fan from Screwfix, which works well. Just compare their flow rate specs.
It's switched on by a PIR, so anyone who stands in the shower switches it on.0 -
Ooops. Then it did not conform with building regulations and you should be inviting him back not only on those grounds but also on the grounds that what he fitted is clearly inadequate (ie as cheap as he could possibly get) for the task.hotcookie101 wrote: »The builder supplied and fitted the fan-didn't ask us what we wanted, TBH was a bit surprised it wasn't on a timer.
Double ooops. If it was a new install it requires a Minor Works Certificate under Issue 17 of the Wiring Regs and the work should also have been notified to your LABC under Part P of the Building Regs. If it was a like for like replacement of an existing fan with no circuit changes then it would not need to be notified but an MWC should still have been issued. He said I didn't need a cert for it either.
Sounds like he's rather messed things up (I did have another expression in mnd LoL) and he should probably be falling over himself to correct it at his cost before you complain to someone in authority.

Thank you-all this was done nearly 18 months ago-do you think I can still go back to him about it? (and yes I agree about the other expression!)0

Are you sure about this? I understood that a run-on timer was only necessary if the room did not have an openable window (according to Approved Document F 2006 - although this provision doesn't seemed to be mentioned at all in the 2010 revision).
Regardless, I would tend to recommend an extractor that has a continuous duty background mode with boost override although these aren't cheap.
Has the OP checked to ensure any duct or grilles aren't blocked or obstructed?0
