We have just returned from holiday and before we went I arranged our car insurance with Saga who were the cheapest. I did this without telling Esure who kept sending letters about renewal. In the pile of mail was a letter from them apologising for debiting my credit card with their renewal premium and saying that I will be able to see they reversed this charge immediately. They had of course. I never agree to an automatic continuation of any insurance package and am surprised to read that it is now common practice. Must now look at house and contents coming up soon!.
  • To be fair Jake's Gran - Esure had the courtesy to send you a lot of letters about renewal and you did not respond. Did saga contact esure to get your no claims details, meaning they knew you'd got your insutance elsewhere - prompting them to refund your renewal

With a lot of home insurance they let you know the renewal premium and you need to let them know if you do not want to proceed, otherwise it will be auto renewed.

so always a good idea to contact.
  • OK I got the initial details wrong, just off the phone to my mother. She was with AXA for 3 years and last year she was with Admiral. She got the renewal quote in from Admiral and on the back you had to fill it in to cancel the renewal. But instead of returning the letter she phoned them up and cancelled the policy over the phone (or so she had thought). She phoned them again today and they still haven't cancelled the policy, so this is her 3rd attempt now. The woman on the phone said the money which she is owed would be returner to her bank account in a few days. So we'll wait and see.

I agree though, she should have been more aware of her outgoings every month but at the end of the day she's 'Female'.
  • hey hey i take offence to that as I am female!!!!
