How much rent reduction when lift is not working?

Hi all,
A friend of mine rents a flat in central London and the lift has stopped working a month ago. It is likely to last a few more weeks as they need to get a brand new lift installed. Her landlord owns the building and is personally responsible for the lift (if this has an impact on my question).
Now the question is: how much rent reduction would be fair to ask her landlord?
Thanks for your time.

Ask for 5% off and when he says 'go and whistle, its out of my control, i didnt break it', continue paying as normal.0

I presume there are stairs? What floor is the flat on?0

If she lives on floors 1, 2 or 3 (or perhaps even 4) then I'd say the stairs will do her good, so don't be cheeky!
If she's higher than 3rd or 4th floor, then perhaps ask for a £20 voucher towards a new pair of shoes due to the extra wear and tearShould've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Tell her to think of the benefits - more exercise, healthier heart, probably small weight-loss and stop whinging...0

4th floor of a building with high ceilings. I told her to ask for 10% off. Try coming back from holidays with a suitcase…0

Don't quite see the problem. If I live in a house and my bedroom is upstairs, do I ask for a 2.5% reduction, or call the landlord and tell him to carry my case up for me?0 -

Unless your friend is disabled, older or she's packed that suitcase with rocks... she needs to get a grip. I moved all my possessions up and down four floors when I moved into and left uni accomodation as well as weekly shopping and I somehow survived.0 -
Erm I am on the second floor in a conversion. No lift. Unless there is a major health implication...he is not entitled to any reduction. Think of all those tower blocks across the land where lifts are out of action and women with prams and shopping have to struggle to get to the 18th floor.0

Unless your friend is old, infirm, frail or disabled I'd say asking for a discount was just been lazy and taking the mick!0

I don't get a discount on my mortgage when something breaks.
Not only that, but I have to pay to fix it.
It's an inconvenience but it doesn't affect our quality of life unless you're infirm. I wouldn't think to ask for a discount if I get firmer bottom for freeEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
