Need a new car key for citreon C3 06 model

When I bought the car the 2nd key did not work to open the doors remotely although, after you have set off the alarm, it will unlock the doors & start the car.
Main citreon dealer said they should be able to reprogramme the key for £42 but when I took it there said they were unable to do that & I would need to order a new key for £148.
is there asny way of getting it done more cheaply?

It may be that the remote just needs repairing inside as if it starts the car it does not need re proggramming your dealer should have known this!!! take the remote to an AUTO locksmith who will be able to check your remote and repair or replace as required.
If you cant find one let me know and I'll put you onto a good on in your area.

Have to say that i do not fully agree with the quote which is highlighted in bold above .

We purchased a car from a private seller and we were given two keys.

Our car keys started the engine but would not work to open the doors.

I bought the re-programming instructions from ebay for just 99p and was able to successfully re-programme both keys within minutes.

Search on ebay for re-programming car key instructions and the seller emails you the instructions which covers every make of car you can think of.

The poster said that the remote used to work so all that should have been needed would have been a re sync not re proggram as this would achive nothing.
Yes you can buy insturctions to program some remotes for some cars but not all and no citroen remotes can be programmed manually all have to be done via the diagnostic port.

I would acctually suggest that some of the microswitches on the remote have either failed or fallen off.

Where in the original post did the poster say that the remote used to work?

Far as i can see the poster states that they fob has not worked since they purchased the car ?

    Hi
    Thanks for all your posts.
Did get instructions to reprogramme it myself but it didn't work.
When we bought the car we thought the key needed a new battery but replaced that & it still didn't work properly.
It will open the car manually but sets off the alarm first & will start the engine.
    Will try a auto locksmith.

Thanks to Locknut I got in touch with a local locksmith
He came round ,spent about half an hour on the key, fixed it & charged me £10!!!
Apparently it was something to do with the key button pressing down on circuit board & disconnecting the battery.
What would we do without MSE & the people who give their time to help. .
