Charging battery with no charger (!)

I recently bought a torch that uses a single 18650 cell to power it. I bought a mains charger at the same time... but it's on a slow boat from China (literally) and could be ages before I receive it. I'm getting impatient to try out the torch and wondered if I could (semi-safely) try charging a cell with bits & pieces lying around the house?

I have two types of 18650 cell - both have over-charge/over-discharge protection circuits, both are marked 3.7V Li-ion. One type is 2600mAh, while the other is 2400mAh.

I also have an AC-DC adaptor that has a switch to select the voltage output (3V, 4.5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V and 12V). The adapter says "Current: 300mA" (presumably the output current for any selected voltage). I also have a multi-meter so I can verify voltage/current.

So... is there a reasonably safe way to partially charge the cells without damaging them (or me!)?

Thanks for any advice!
