Halifax Online Banking

I've just had an email to say Halifax are changing their online banking siite. For me as a credit card customer, this will mean I will no longer receive online statements or be able to make online payments to my credit card!
This is apparently an upgrade to their online system!
I think it means I will be "upgrading" to leave asap! Why would they do this?!
http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/newlook/
Relevant para on payments is:
"You can no longer make an online payment to your credit card using your debit card. However, if you have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland bank account, you’ll be able to make an online payment by setting up a payment from your bank account. Information on alternative ways to pay can be found on the back of your credit card statement and also under the 'Manage account' tab on the new site."

Linky to rb10 thread on the same subject.
It would appear that Halifax was, in some respects, more advanced than Lloyds - but as Lloyds was a bit more sensible with how they lent money (compared to Bank of Scotland Corporate) they won the prize of deciding which computer systems to run their new "merged" bank with.
But you can still pay via bill payment from a Halifax current account, so it's not a major inconvenience.0 -

So you make a bill payment from wherever your current account is!
It's the 'one step back' to take 'two steps forward'. Allegedly! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Or set up a direct debit to pay the minimum payment/a fixed amount/a fixed percentage of the outstanding balance/the full amount.
I'm not pleased about the removal of online statements though :mad:0 -
Online Banking finally changing
As long you get/have Halifax Current A/C no probs0 -
As staff were changing over to the new online banking this month before everyone else changes in January. I had a play about with the new demo. It looks quite smart and a bit more user friendly :-)0

All I'm saying is that to introduce a "upgrade" to "paperless billing" that means (a) you can't see your statements online, (b) you have to use the phone to request credit increase or pin reminder and (c) you can no longer make payments with your debit card online seems a considerable retrograde move. I know there are other ways round it - but I happened to think it very easy to simply click a button and pay off your statement, rather than having to go into another bank account and initiate a payment.0
