Help! Problems logging into MSN Messenger

I'm using MSN Messenger 8.0 and when I try to login it says "signing in" constantly. No error messages, I've even left it trying to sign in for ages and it doesn't even timeout. If I try putting in an incorrect password it says that it is incorrect.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

If you read the "Messenger Team Blog" (deeply patronising and talks down to you) entry for 11 October you will see that they have had a problem with Zone Alarm which prevents you logging in. Is that the problem you're getting?
Today it worked ok for me. Previously I had to turn off Zone Alarm, log on to Messenger, then turn Zone Alarm on again...

Thanks for you response, John. I am using Zone Alarm but switching it off and trying to logon doesn't work. Maybe the fix will sort the problem.
Thanks

I would never turn off a firewall, if software or an Internet site or service tells you, that you have to for the program, service to work they only want a easy way into your computer system. Manual allow the software to connect to the Internet meaning that you know what is connected to the Internet and of course Windows Live Messenger 8 has to connect to the Internet to work. lol All well look at what is wanting to connect to the Internet. And just looked at the support blog of the messenger team and looks like you have to use the web messenger to chat, until they have fixed the problem.
