Hi there,
This is my first time posting here so bear with me!
I have been having a sticky few months after having a baby and returning to work part time. I was trying to struggle with my bills on my own which I just couldn’t do on my reduced salary. Resulting in bank charges. Ive managed to sort things out with my partner now and he is now going to be contributing to my bills monthly so should be back on track going forward. And this month luckily has gone according to plan. However I have checked my online banking and for last month 9 direct debits failed and I have been charged £72!!!!!!! Prior to this each month it was around £30 in charges. Obviously this wasn’t helping my situation as if they didn’t keep taking the money out on charges then perhaps the money would have been there for the bills! Ive been annoyed by the charges but have accepted them up until now, however this £72 charge seems like robbery!! Do I have any hope in claiming it back? Im going to call them tonight and im sure they will say no. But im not sure if I should take this?
Thanks in advance.

If the charges have been applied in accordance with terms and conditions of the product, then theres little you can do to demand a refund.
Have you read the MSE articles to reclaiming bank charges?
The first one deals with essentially claims made on financial hardship grounds. Take a look at the sticky on financial hardship online resources to see if this may apply to you.
Note that financial hardship is based on as assessment of total household income.
Even if you are in financial hardship, there is no obligation on the bank to refund any charges.
The other MSE article suggests a legal challenge to the bank charges. However, no one has yet reported any success in court following this article since it was first published about 9 months ago.
As the MSE article says:...do remember the best way to avoid bank charges is not to have them in the first place – for help avoiding them see the Bank Charges Compared guide..."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
