Scottish Power Energy saver 4

I currently have my gas and electric through Scottish Power Energy saver 4 package.
We are £100 in credit from paying £55 per month for gas and elec.
With the news going round that the prices will be going up, is it worth me changing or sticking?

Martin suggests you switch and save (and why not? ... as long as you do actually save something)
He also suggests you go for a fixed deal to protect yourself from the price increases he foresees.
Hmmm... I'll leave that up to you - one supplier I know has said they don't have any current intention of raising their prices despite what Martin foresees in his cystal ball or what his bunch of experts (who incidently appear to mostly have had a vested interest in people switching supplier - no matter who from or to, or at what cost, as long as they switch via their website) also say.
As regards to fixed deals, I tend to think they often follow the same pattern whatever they refer to (e.g. utilities, mortgages, etc)
If the fixed deal is the same price as the variable deal, chances are the prices of the variable deal are not going up ... and may even go down.
If the fixed deal is more expensive than the variable deal, chances are variable deals will be going up during the term ... but when? and until then, you'll be paying a premium for the same stuff.
However, my crystal ball is just as clear/blurry as Martin's (expect for the supplier that has confirmed it has no plans to increase prices currently following the announcment of SSE to raise the cost of its gas)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
