Gas & electric usage - should I split?
Hi,
My SP tariff ends soon and I'm looking into a new supplier etc. I have always gone with a dual fuel supplier but looking at my usage this year, I wondered if I should split suppliers? Is it awkward to sort etc? Wondered if anyone had any advice whether it works out better?
My usage so far this year is 4559 elect and 10,760 gas, just have Oct usage to add for an accurate figure. Is this usage about right do you think for a 4 bed semi with gas c/h? We tend to use our elect in the evenings and wkends hence the figure.
Thanks

I would go with the cheapest option
Some comparison sites (e.g. Energyhelpline) make this easy to compare by tabbing across from dual fuel to single fuel options.
It's no more difficult to apply for single fuels than for a dual fuel (apart from obviously you need to make 2 separate applications)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Those figures don't look too bad. Bear in mind your gas usage is going to leap up now you've presumably got your central heating on. My annual usage Sept. to Sept. for a 4 bed detached with gas central heating/hot water has been 3,879 kWh electricity and 21,228 kWh gas.
In my experience, dual fuel tariffs give better value thanks to the discounts offered and are easier to deal with as you only get one bill.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Hello,
I have n't been part of a forum before & so I am not sure that I am putting this in the right place. The Moneysupermarket Comparison site states that British Gas will only sell separate gas or electricity to " existing" customers.
This is incorrect. I have signed up with them today for just electricity as I cannot get gas and have oil for central heating. There was n't any problem. Furthermore, when I mentioned the "cash back" incentives that I could not get by choosing them and the fact that EDF was offering £75 I was offered a £75 discount. I chose them over Npower because they guarantee to be 6% lower than standard tariff until 2012. Hope that I have put this information in the right place, it was all that I registered for.

It's no more akward to sort than dual fuel. My gas and electricity are split between providers as this was the cheapest option for me, also do check all paying methods as in some cases it may work out cheaper with a standard tariff due to the prompt payment discounts applied by some companiesNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Shame you didn't post a link to substantiate such a spurious comment....I was offered a £75 discount.
I wonder how may others could get a £75 discoiunt just for asking? Not many I would think.
Shame you didn't go into more details on how to obtain this £75 discount.I chose them over Npower because they guarantee to be 6% lower than standard tariff until 2012.
(Martin suggests possible savings as high as 20-30%)
... it was all that I registered for.
