not only am I after a laptop for myself I am also looking to buy my 8 year old one for Xmas the netbooks seem a good choice but I have been told alot of these you can't watch youtube on, and this is what it would mainly be used for, it also needs to have wireless not to bothered about a cd/dvd writer, something to assist him with homework and watching youtube and something I can easily put a parental lock on.
Thanks in advance

well other than the obvious concerns regarding letting a 8 year old loose with a wireless enabled laptop therefore allowing them unsupervised access to the internet (and although parental controls are helpful they should not be used as the be all and end of supervision for children online)
you havent told us your budgetDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Oh yes, sorry I am forgetfull today, I was hoping to pick something up for under £150, it wouldn't be totally unsupervised as I would set ground rules and would only let them on in the same room as me if they flounced these rules the laptop would be locked away or stuck on Ebay lol0 -
well at that budget you will probably be looking at either a Linux based netbook or a secondhand/refurb windows based one, this is mainly down to the fact windows in itself costs around £70 new
so are you willing to look at a refurb/second hand version to have windows or are you willing to put a little bit of time and effort into learning a different operating system (this is not as scary as it sounds honest)Drop a brand challenge

I've never used anything but windows, but yeah I'd be happy with another one, I know at the price I am willing to pay it will be a refurb/2nd hand as long as it had been reset(or whatver the term is) i'm cool with that0

How about an IBM Thinkpad T42 for £199 incl a 1 year warranty? If not, plenty of other options on the same site up to £200.0
