EON or not to EON that is the question
Options
Hi All
I have now purchased a lovely house for me and my girls.
Anyway the house electric and gas are with EON. I rang EON yesterday and they offered a few quotes. I was with British Gas for Gas and Electric I rang them and they seem very keen on having me back, because I pay online and have never missed a payment.
I may not be able to move in until December so EON said their tariffs will change by then!
Has anyone had any trouble with EON would you rate them as a good provider??
I've got a couple of weeks to make my mind up I have been on comparison sites as well British Gas and EON come out about the same when you work the price per unit etc.
Thank you for any advice

Hi clingwood - The day you take possession of the house you will be an Eon customer as they are the established supplier - you cannot change this, and be aware that as a 'New Account' Eon will automatically put you onto an expensive 'Standard Tariff'
The best tariffs, including Eon, are those with Direct Debit payment and Online billing, But, to visit the Switch sites for the best deal you have to know your Annual Gas & Elec. consumption in Kwh, which you won't have.
However, if you post the type of house, how well insulated and size of family, I and other posters on this site will give you a fair guess of what your consumption is likely to be0 -
Thanks so much dogshome, I didn't know that I when I take posssession of the house I am automatically with EON (learning all the time xhub was control freak!)
The house is a 3bed semi, well insulated, me and my daughter living there we are both out most of the day. I wouldn't say we are high energy users.
If there is anything else you need to know just post,0 -

Hi clingwood,
Thought I would just advise what info E.ON will need when you move in.
The date you became responsible for the house, the meter readings taken on this day (make sure you take these, as it stops problems further down the line)
You can even set up a payment arrangement/online account, even if you don't want to stay with E.ON, it just means you will have a better choice tariff from the start.
But like others have said using a comparison site is a good way to find the best tariff/supplier for you.
If I can help any more, just let me know.

If you setup an online account with Eon you can change your tariffs online. I recently did this and found it very easy to do. I would much prefer to change supplier/tariff in my own time in front of the computer with all the info than giving in to one of those salesmen who knock on the door every once in a while.0

Just to quickly say I have been with Eon for some time and have found them very easy to deal with. There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0

Hi clingwood - OK. You and your daughter in a well insulated 3 bed semi
Use the following for your annual use on the Switch sites
ELECTRIC 4500Kwh
GAS 15000Kwh
Keep in mind this is only a "Best Guess", so record your meter readings on a monthly basis to check how Good or Bad this guess is, and negotiate your monthly D/Debit payments up or down accordingly.
You will use around 80% of your annual gas during the Winter months, and in Summer your Elec consumption will drop by around 20%0 -
OP, the figures provided by dogshome assume that your CH and hot water are both done by gas of course. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

We live in 3 bed semi, with Gas CH & HW, and are with E-on.
There are 3 of us, we are all out during the day in school time.
We try to be good about usage of electricity, we unplug everything when not in use & don't leave things on standby. No tumble dryer or dishwasher. Computer/laptop.tv/dvd player/ games console usage is several hours each evening.
We use around 2700 Kwh pa, this has been consistent for the last few years.
Gas - we used just under 16000Kwh in the last 12 months ( but it was the coldest winter in 30 years apparently!).
Hope that helps.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Save online 4 with eon is cheaper than all BG tariffs. as other posters have advised worth having a squizz on a comparison site or 2 to see state of play, but saveol4 is the cheapest rate you can get from eon0
