Restructure at Work - in line for redundancys

Hi there
My first post on here, however i've lurked for years!!
Yesterday a restructure was announced at my place of work. In the past there have been 3 Duty Managers (me being one of them), however in the new structure there is only a job for one. One of the Duty Managers has 'walked' into this role as 'the boss' said she already does 80% of the job. (this is totally untrue as there is a lot more work involved - in fact a lot of the work is mine!!)
Did 'the boss' just say this to save her?
She would get more redundancy money than us two, as she is over 41 years and worked there a year long than me.
What a horrible situation. Not only have i (potentially) lost the job i love but i was also buying my first home (mortgage provider won't lend now, will they!!)
Thanks in advance for any answers to the question.

Much more information needed.
How many people affected?
How have they "walked" into the role? Has this been announced? If so what where the criteria? If in the employers view this person is more able to the tasks and has followed the proper processes and been objective then I doubt it would be unfair.
Length of service can be used as a criteria although not on its own.
I am afraid if between the 3 of you they have decided this person is the best at the job you are probably going to be out of a job.0 -
Hi MrRedundant
Thanks for the reply.
3 of us are affected and 'the boss' basically said she would slip into the role available because she has been doing 80% of it already.
I always thought if a new post was created in a restruction then it was open to everyone to apply but i'm obviously wrong.
Thanks again0
