Application to UCAS?

Options
My daughter had a phonecall from a friend yesterday to say her twin brother has got an offer from a UNI.

She is now in a bit of a panic and trying to get it ready to send off.
Luckily her tutor is her biology teacher and has got her to do her personal statement and got all the teachers to do her references.

Some of her friends in other groups haven't got that far.

She has been around a few Unis so have chosen her 5.

Is it usually this early? I don't want her to rush it.

If she's not applying for Medicine, Veterinary Sciences or to go to Oxford/Cambridge she's OK.

Providing she gets her application in by 15th January (24th March for Art & Design courses) her application has to be considered by all of the universities she applies to.

However universities will run interview dates and offer places prior to the January deadline to strong candidates so the earlier an application is received by the university the less competition there is for the number of places.

I'd suggest she got her application in as soon as she can (plus it takes off the stress once she's got offers), but she should take the time to make sure she's applying for the right course at the right universities for her. Better to hand in an application with a good personal statement with the right courses/universities nearer to the deadline than to do a rush job and regret the choices made.

I applied in October (the teachers were quite strict and wanted everything done by November). I didn't recieve offers until January though.

Thanks. She is interested in Pharmacology/Pharmaceutical sciences.

She is getting advice from her tutor.

I know from my other daughters that some of their friends, even though they had excellent A level results had trouble getting a place, so the sooner she knows may take some of the pressure off.

I know I felt a lot better once I'd sent off my application and much better once I'd got at least one offer :)

Last time round I applied late October, had interviews in January and offers by the beginning of February.
The first time I applied (2002) I had my application in by the beginning of October and had all my offers by Christmas.

It's always best to apply as early as possible as you're more likely to know where you are before A levels get too intense.

yeah the official deadline is Jan 15, but best to be sooner than that. My school's rule was by October half term. You seem surprised by what her teachers have done to help her, erm, that's just what they're expected to do isn't it?
Funnily enough I'm a 1st year Pharmacy student now. ;) Has she considered Pharmacy? I'd suggest she does; much better career prospects IMO because its a vocational/professional course which leads straight on to a job, compared to a 'normal' degree like Pharmacology.
    Although I'm obviously biased. :p

Unis give out offers/interviews as they receive them. I think I had most if not all of my offers well before Jan 15th. Most school/colleges with their heads screwed on seem to set deadlines of about this time of year.
