Urgent: Need Laptop Charger

I desperately need a cheap laptop charger for a Dell Inspiron 6400 as mine has now decided to stop working - the light still works on the adapter but the laptop will not recognise it - part of the wire is spilt near the connector so I assume this is the fault so unlikely to be able to repair. The battery is dead (old and does not charge) so cannot turn the laptop on now, so really need something urgently.
I have had a look on ebay and some sellers have ones for around £10, but with bad feedback and state long delivery times (registered as UK but items are from China) Also some state that they do not actually work.
I don't want to be spending a fortune because my laptop is really old anyway but I just need to be able to use it, if there is any cheap sites you can recommend I would be most grateful.

  • I had the same problem with mine a year or so back the way my laptop was positioned had caused it to stay in that shape and it bent the wire inside the cable, I took it to an independant electrical shop try and find one out of your main town as these seem to charge much less they sorted it out for me for less than a fiver.

I know you aren't keen on Ebay, but search for
    PA12 FOR DELL INSPIRON 1520 1525 1501 6000 6400 CHARGER

the seller is uk based feedback is 99.5 positive the seller is all-laptopaccessories I can't post links yet :)
  • You could try Maplin.

They sell universal chargers and usually (in my experience) have one or two in stock.

You don't need a new charger, get it repaired.

+1. You'll still have a genuine dell charger and it won't cost that much.

Yeah that sounds exactly like what has happened with mine, except the casing is all split on it too.
I don't think I have anywhere near by that could repair the cable, I don't drive either so I think ordering online is probably the best bet.
Have had a look at the seller you recommended, their feedback certainly seems a bit better than some of the others, even had comments about fast delivery too. Will have a quick look elsewhere but if not I think Ill probably go for them

Had a look at the Maplins website and their multi chargers are £40 so thats bit too much for me.

I got one off ebay for £10 and its fine; arrived within a couple of days. Just have to make sure its the correct voltage and plug for your laptop - check the plate underneath laptop with the correct voltage requirement.

If the green light is on it doesn't sound like you need a new power lead?
    Gone ... or have I?

I know I dont, but the lead to connect to the adpater only has 2 pins on mine, the ones online require 3 pins
