Can anybody tell me how I can find out if My old shares are still valid.
I recently moved home and uncovered some old PowerGen shares. I have been trying to discover if they are still valid or not as PowerGen is now E-on. I have contacted E-on who keep trying to fob me off.

Contact Eon's share Registrars. Not sure who they are, but try Googling for it. Your PowerGen certificate will say who their Registrar was - you could start by contacting them and they will point you in the right direction.0

Eon took over Powergen around 2002-03. From memory, EON purchased Powergen shares at £7.60 ish each. Eon shares are actually traded on the German exchanges and the registrar will be in Germany. Quick search gave link here to share register and shareholder info, give them a ring.

Most likely you are due £7.60 ish each. Doubt there will be an option to convert them to EON shares but if so, worth assessing if this is more worthwhile instead of receiving cash payment. Depends on whether or not you trade in shares also. Price of EON shares has fallen significantly over years and they also had at least one split (1:3) in shares a few years ago. Pretty good value at present as they have been trading around a year low of 20-22 Eur for months, have an approx 6% dividend and are easily traded in UK through share dealing accounts (EOAN.DE).
Hope this helps.
