We are going away for a few days to remotest Wales. I need to keep in touch with work and intend taking my laptop. The inn where we are staying apparently has broadband in the rooms but not wifi. What cable do I need to connect my laptop to the room's network connection?

Standard Cat 5 Ethernet cable. Sometimes refered to as "Patch" cable (note "Straight" not "twisted pair").

All CAT5 cable uses twisted pair. You presumably mean not a crossover cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Sorry - that's what I meant !
Apologies for the confusion.

Is that the one which has like two little spring clips - one each end? I am assuming I plug one end in the socket on my pc and there will be a similar socket in our hotel room for the other end (sorry to sound daft but I am only used to working wirelessly)?
(I assume the inn has some in stock but we are arriving very late the first night and the hotel will be full so I want to be sure to be able to get on line and not have to waste time trying to buy one in rural wales on arrival).0 -
Normally with hotels like that they supply the cables in the room. Could be worth phoning to check.0

One of these if your stuck but you almost certainly will have one from when you got your modem / router. Make sure you buy one long enough !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
