Car insurance for 1-2 months. Cheapest thing to do

My car insurance, MOT and tax expired at the end of October. Not a problem as I was planning to sell car on ebay.

I had bought another car but dealer sold it to someone else  (long story - not relevant) so...

Have had my old car MOT'd and now need to insure it while I look for another car which I hope to get within the next 6 weeks.

Need to insure it but not sure of the cheapest way to do this. Have had quotes for 3rd party F/T for the year (cheapest £150-ish) and was planning to pay on a monthly basis and then cancel however the cancellation fees are stupid (40% of premium plus around £75) and was wondering if anyone else had had this experience and might have suggestion of what I could do.

TIA

If you take out an annual policy, you can change the Insurance over to the new car, subject to the relevant premium adjustment. Just make sure the company will Insure the new car that you are likely to buy. i.e. if you bought a high rated sports car they might not

This should work out cheaper that a short term policy now and then an annual policy.

If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Maybe try pay as you go, I can't post links but ecar pay as you go.

Pay As You Go (PAYG) Monthly Policy

eCar Pay As You Go monthly policy allows you to purchase cover as and when you need it - on a monthly basis for a monthly premium. You can purchase cover one month at a time and then switch it off when it's not required.

A renewal notice will be sent shortly before the expiry of the policy. If you would like the policy to continue for another month, we will renew it automatically and collect the monthly premium. If you would like to cancel your policy, you will need to go on line to cancel the policy in “Your Account” on or before the expiry date.

Take out Ecar Insurance and expect to have problems. Just do a search of this site and others for details of the problems you might have. People have had their car impounded by the Police, as details of their Insurance have not been registered or policies cancelled without notice.
