Making chilli with stewing steak

Hi everyone. I was hoping you could help. I recently went to a pampered chef party and in one of their cookbooks was a receipe to make a chilli with stewing steak cubes in the oven. I remember you had to leave it in there for a few hours but cannot remember how to make it, ie. do I have to brown the mince off first, and do I add the kidney beans at the beginning or towards the end etc?? Does anyone have any ideas on how I make this as BF is not keen on mince so I bought this stewing steak as an alternative. Thank you in advance!!

I always make my chilli with stewing steak or shin beef. I usually do it in the pressure cooker, but have also done it in the slow cooker. Brown meat, onions & garlic in a frying pan first, add stock & chilli powder and either cook in PC at pressure for 20 mins or bung in SC and go out to work for for 8 hours. I always put a tablespoon full of cocoa powder in too - for authentic Mexican touch. Thicken as necessary with cornflour & cold water. I use tinned kidney beans for convenience and put them in right at the end just to heat through. HTH!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

This is how I do it:-
Heat a tablespoon of oil in flameproof casserole on high heat, add the stewing steak and keep turning till brown all over. It`s important to do this on a high heat to seal in juices. Add a large chopped onion and lower heat to medium. cover and cook for 5 mins. Then add a crushed clove garlic (you can omit this if you don`t like garlic). Next stir in chilli powder,(I use two heaped teaspoons of hot chilli pwdr)+ 1 teaspoon oregano then add a tin of chopped tomatoes and 6 fl oz beef stock, bring to the boil then cover and transfer to oven. gas 4 180F. cook for 90 mins then add a can of drained and rinsed kidney beans for a further 30 mins.0 -
If your oh doesn't like mince, I have also made it to a similar recipe as above but with leftover roast beef and it is yum!0

If we have nothing else to hand we often use a tin of corned beef... works a treat and requires no cooking... just heating.
Yum yum0
