Stuff left in loft - rented house

We moved into our rented house a couple of weeks ago and need to store some things in the loft.
However, when we have gone up there it is full of stuff left by previous people. It's not even tidy or boxed or anything - literally just chucked up there.
Nothing was ever mentioned about using the loft for storage and when asked the estate agent didn't know if it was boarded out or anything.
Where do I stand with getting rid of this stuff? The loft or its contents aren't mentioned on the inventory either.

Perhaps you could get the estate agent to ask the landlord what he wants doing with it.
When I moved into my rented house I just made a list of everything I wanted to do or get rid of and got the agent to contact the landlord for permission. He agreed to everything I asked.0 -
I think this is a sticky issue. I would agreee with the above poster, trying to sort things out reasonably is always the best first action but the landlord is tied by laws on uncollected goods.
A thing called the "Torts (interference with goods) Act 1977 governs what the landlord can do with them in that they cant just dump the stuff without facing possible court action.
Having said that the landlord's problem is not your problem so you could insist that he move it and store it elsewhere. If your understanding is that you rent the entire property and there is no clause in the agreement that excludes the loft then you are being prevented from using part of what you pay for.0 -
It might be the LL's and not previous T's.
Write to the agent and LL advising that things are in the loft and requesting their advise on how to deal with it.0 -
It could have been up there for years, I'd never look in a loft in a house, especially a rented one.0

If I wanted to use the space fast I'd consider advising letting-agent/Landlord that I was bringing to stuff round for them Friday morning....
If I didn;t want the space quick I'd invite agent/LL to arrange to remove the stuff (their problem..,) within, say 1 or 2 weeks.
It is possible they are unaware of the stuff..
It would be reprehensible of me to wonder if there were any "attractive" items involved so I won't....0
