To accept or not accept!

Will try and be brief

Have had a PPI claim on a credit card from HSBC dating back to 1998.

I first started the claims process in April this year and have today finally received an offer of £2300 although HSBC are not accepting any liability and appears to be a goodwill gesture! Has taken alot of letters and stalling tactics on their part to get to this stage. Have also been treated badly in terms of broken promises from people promising to phone me back etc etc. This offer also came about a few days after I said that I was taken my complaint to the ombudsman.

My need for advice is simple! Do I ....

1) Take the offer from HSBC - it has taken a long time to get to this position, it covers PPI for the last 6 years but does not go back to 1998 as neither they nor I have the records that far back. It is coming up to Christmas and would be also let me pay off my last debts etc.

2) Continue with the ombudsman complaint. The way that HSBC have dealt with the whole issue has been terrible - something they acknowledge in their letter. Would it be worth taking it further taking into account the amount of time it would take the ombudsman to be able to deal with it! Am I likely to get any further with this route. The £2300 is the correct amount for the last 6 years.

Anyway - am very much in 2 minds, have a bit of thinking time but would appreciate peoples advice/experiences of similar situations.

Cheers

    Hi there

Well done on your success after all the waiting.

Now the decision is yours only, but if they do not have the details going back any further - it will possibly be the same then if you did complain to the FOS........as they would not have the info to send them either.

So its up to you of course.
Its a good offer, well done!;)

HSBC wil only refund your premiums for last 6 years as this is all they have on their records now. If you want to claim premiums from further back ensure you still have your original statements showing the premiums you paid.
