If the law of Karma has its way, that manager deserves all due to her in a reccession ie the dole.
Nice.....
The Op got it wrong not the manager and the manager agreed the extension (which obviously was the right thing to do) - not sure why this is so bad.
Cross selling of financial services happens eveywhere these days so we should all be uised to it (and how to resist it)

The whole basis of this thread is incorrect though and clearly the TC manager made a mistake.
I worked for TC for a long long time, and this mistake is quite common. There is a disparity between when the travel agent wants the money and when the tour operator does. The travel agent used to explain this as being due to "the need for us to have the money from you in order for us to have payment to them by the dates stated in the brochure" Thats hogwash, its all about cashflow.
The manager should have referred to the balance due date in the brochure, granted the extension and made a note on the booking and diary note, which would have been more than enough to satisfy their auditors etc.
As a customer, you're bound by the T&C's of the operator you booked with, when things go wrong, retail shops will be at pains t tell you that they're only acting as agents for the operator and can't be held responsible for any changes they make...they can't therefore have it both ways and impose their own payment terms.
Legally they cannot cancel a holiday before the operators balance due date, simple as that.0
